The Great WTH?
CBS’ Morley Safer last night broadcast his interview with Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal. In his interview, Mr. Safer stated: “The son of immigrants, Ivy League educated, and all of 37 years old, Jindal has been called the great beige hope of the Republican Party.”
WHO, MR. SAFER? I’ll be glad to withdraw this criticism if you can politely point me to someone, within the Republican Party, who has described Louisiana’s Governor as “the great beige hope.”
Point in fact, the only person who has called him that as far as anyone can tell is you, Mr. Safer. Indeed, Mr. Safer was not done there. Calling Jindal an “exotic” choice for governor and saying that Jindal “plays down” his ethnicity to come across as a “true-blue American”, Mr. Safer talked down to the Jindal family throughout the interview.
Bottom Line: Governor Jindal is a true-blue American. He’s pursued (and attained) the American dream through hard-work, God-given intelligence, and a love of this country. Nothing is more American, and ethnicity has nothing to do with any of that success. Indeed, the only one to draw attention to race or to suggest the Jindals to be less than a “true-blue Americans” was Mr. Safer.
Ridiculous, offensive and bigoted.
